Recognising the crucial role of the in-house general counsel, Elias Neocleous & Co LLC was delighted to co-sponsor the inaugural Legal 500 GC Powerlist: Greece and Cyprus. The list, developed by the leading legal publisher Legal 500, focuses on the people driving commerce forward from within, highlighting the most influential in-house lawyers in business today. The publication of the list for Greece and Cyprus was marked by a reception held in Athens on 10 May attended by well over a hundred nominees and guests.

Following the global financial crisis, the role of the general counsel has changed significantly, with in-house lawyers extending their sphere beyond the traditional focus on compliance and litigation to a much more proactive and strategic involvement in helping their businesses find their way through uncharted waters. Lawyers working in in-house roles, particularly in small and medium-size enterprises, have had to extend their skill set beyond their legal expertise and develop commercial, management and communications skills.
