If you’re looking to obtain a Cypriot ID card and Passport, the first essential step is securing Cypriot citizenship.

Citizenship may be granted in several ways—through naturalisation, investment, marriage to a Cypriot citizen, or due to Cypriot ancestry.

How to Get a Cypriot ID Card

Under the Civil Registry Law, holding a Cypriot ID is mandatory for all citizens aged 12 and above (optional for younger children). Here’s what the process involves:

  • Application Submission
Visit the District Administration Office or a Citizen Service Centre in any major town across Cyprus and submit the official application form.
  • Required Documents & Fees
The application must be accompanied by, among others, the Original Birth Certificate of the applicant as well as the amount of €30 if the application is submitted for adults or the amount of €20 if the application is submitted for minors.
  • In-Person Presence
The applicant must appear in person to provide biometric data (photo & fingerprints) and signature.
  • Collection of the ID
IDs are collected from the same office where the application is filed. You can collect it yourself or authorize someone else using a designated form.
  • Processing Time
Typically, your ID will be ready within 10 working days.
  • Validity Period
The validity of an ID is 10 years for adults and 5 years for minors.

How to Get a Cypriot Passport

The process for obtaining a Cypriot Passport is similar, with a few key differences:

  • Application Requirements
You’ll need your Cypriot ID. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to submit both your Birth Certificate and Certificate of Citizenship.
  • Fees
The fees paid for the issuance/renewal of a Cypriot Passport are €70 for adults and €45 for minors. However, an applicant has the opportunity to accelerate the issuance or renewal of his passport by paying an additional amount of €50.
  • Express Option
An applicant has the chance to accelerate the issuance or renewal of his passport by paying an additional amount of €50.
