Investigation Initiated by Cyprus Bar Association on Property Transactions in Occupied Territories

The President of the Cyprus Bar Association, Michael Vorkas, has announced that the investigation about property transactions in the occupied territories allegedly facilitated by a company with Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot lawyers partners is still in its early stages.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Bar Association, Vorkas stated that no one can provide local services without being licensed by the Association.

He explained that a limited liability company, which is not a law firm, appears to be advertising these services and operating in the occupied territories.

Vorkas emphasized that no judgment can be made until all parties involved have had the opportunity to be heard. The Bar Association has taken the responsibility of investigating the issue and, if evidence of illegal activity is found, the Disciplinary Department will handle the case.

Vorkas also confirmed that the investigation is still in the initial stages and that translations had to be made for communication with the Turkish-Cypriot lawyer involved.
